Sustainable urban development highlights the need for reform of market mechanisms to achieve environmental goals and the achievement of a balance with social and economic considerations. Several themes common to all definitions of sustainable urban development have emerged: A change in the quality of growth. Urban development should be guided by a sustainable planning and management vision that promotes interconnected green space, a multi-modal transportation system, and mixed-use development. Diverse public and private partnerships should be used to create sustainable and livable communities that protect historic, cultural, and environmental. The aim of this training is to contribute towards the development of socially inclusive, sustainable, safe and resilient cities worldwide. In response to this demand the Technische Universität Berlin offers training programs for foreign and local experts on specific aspects of urban management. The issues addressed relate to the most pressing.
Sustainable management takes the concepts from sustainability and synthesizes them with the concepts of management. Sustainability has three branches: the environment, the needs of present and future generations, and the economy.Using these branches, it creates the ability of a system to thrive by maintaining economic viability and also nourishing the needs of the present and future. GIS is used today to better understand and solve urban problems. This book explores and illustrates the use of geo-information in the planning and management of urban regions. The first part of the book addresses the concept of sustainable urban development, its different frameworks, the many ways of measuring sustainability, and its value.
